Nicotine Strength Guide

 

In order to give yourself the best chance of quitting you need choose the nicotine patches, lozenges or gum that are most suitable for you. The amount you smoke or used to smoke will affect which products will be most effective. Use the following table to help find out what's best for you:

 


Between 1 & 30 minutes

You smoke or used to smoke between 1 and 30 minutes after waking. If you are looking for nicotine gum or lozenges you could be better off using the 4mg NiQuitin Lozenges or 4mg Niquitin Gum, rather than the lower strength 2mg version.

For nicotine patches look at how many cigarettes you smoke per day (see below).

 
More than 30 minutes
 

You smoke or used to smoke more than 30 minutes after waking. If you are looking for nicotine gum or lozenges you could be better off using the 2mg NiQuitin Lozenges or 2mg NiQuitin Gum, rather than the higher strength 4mg version.

For nicotine patches look at how many cigarettes you smoke per day (see below).

 
Between 1 & 10 per day
  You smoke or used to smoke between 1 and 10 cigarettes per day. If you are looking for nicotine patches you might find that you can start at Step-2 of the three-step programme and can skip Step-1 completely.
 
More than 10 per day
  You smoke or used to smoke more than 10 cigarettes per day. If you are looking for nicotine patches you will probably need to start at Step-1 of the three-step programme.
